Church Board

Post by Grizz Gallant » April 2nd, 2018, 5:25 am

So I found out about 6pm last night that I have been nominated to run for Church Board. The election will be next Sunday. Please pray for God's hand in this situation.

I've had the role of "Board Secretary" (Leader of the Board) at our church for 11 years. I'm in the middle of our second pastoral transition in that time. In times of transition the "Board Secretary" is the leader of the church.
It hasn't always been fun, but it has certainly been interesting... and rewarding. Most importantly I always felt that I was where God needed me.

The hardest thing for me in leadership has always been discerning between a good idea and the will of God. If you look for what doors are being thrown open you might find God's handiwork and a sign of his will. On the other hand just because something is difficult doesn't mean it isn't what you should do. Discernment is HARD!

I'm not sure if this if your first rodeo. If you've been nominated, then someone sees something in you. I'm praying for God's will to be done first of all in your life, and second in the election (or not) of your leadership.

My advice for anyone taking a church leadership role:
  • Pray.
Take the time to listen for what God might be saying.
    Discern. (Open vs. Closed Doors.)
    Pray
    Heed.
    Pray some more.
Develop a tough skin and a tender heart.
Maybe you've already lived all this. If so, then great maybe someone else can benefit.

God Bless,
Glenn
