Star Citizen is coming along

Post by Aaronander » August 2nd, 2015, 6:28 pm

I picked up SC again after a few months of just leaving it along (I tended to obsess a bit too much before). I have to say things are coming along nicely. There's now a full tutorial level thats pretty legit. I finally got my joystick to perform the way I need it to. The flight model is way different than Elite: Dangerous so its been weird trying to get used to it.

I'm excited for GamesCom in a few days that should (hopefully) give us some more goodies.

Side note for those who play: We do have an org started, but if there aren't going to be many people playing at launch, I might try to find another active one to join. Who knows.

You make very very quick turns. It's space so there's no limit to your movements except for what your body can handle. You know when you make a sharp turn in elite it takes a few seconds to "glide" into the turn? In SC you turn on a dime, but you have to apply thrusters in order to stop moving in your original direction. It's more like flight assist off from ED but a little easier to control

There's a new demo video of what the next alpha release will be like (multicrew ship and a larger system to play in) and it is stunning. The crew takes over a derelict vessel, fixes it, and then fights with it. Check it out:

So it's this or E:D DLC (both being $45)? Hmmm....

It's important to note that the demo was done live at gamescom. If you watch the full thing you'll even see they did it a few times to get it right. This is all in game play

So, what's currently playable? All I can do is walk around the hangar.

Arena Commander. You can dogfight real players, Computer-controlled Vanduul, Free flight and there's 3 racing maps. There's also a basic flight tutorial that is really fun. The release with the multicrew demo should be coming out soon as well to alpha backers.

So I have to purchase an Arena Commander pass to play the game I already bought?
