Setting up my stream

Post by Cal-Hobbes » October 27th, 2016, 9:08 am

Hey guys,

I'm going to start streaming (probably on the CC channel), and I want to get my settings down as best as possible for the best quality my computer can handle.

So if you feel like helping me out sometime, shoot me a message when I'm online and I'll try to nail this down.

My specs:
Spoiler! :
3.6 GHz Intel Core i7-4720HQ
16GB DDR3L SDRAM
1TB Hard drive
NVIDIA Geforce GTX950M (dedicated) 2GB

I can tell you right now that you have a capable laptop. It will handle streaming up to 1920x1080 30fps or 1280x720 60fps.

The biggest limiting factors will be:
- Internet upload speed.
Can you go to speedtest.net, run a test, and post the upload speed you get?

- Your viewers.
Even if your computer can support a high resolution and high frame rate with a massive video bitrate, keep in mind that some of your twitch viewers might not have enough computing power to play such high resolutions.

If you want to reach the largest audience possible, I generally recommend streaming at 1280x720 (720p) at 30 frames/second with a bitrate in the 2000kbs-2500kbps range.

More details in my guide: viewtopic.php?f=143&t=20536

I'd be happy to help run through and test the stream with you if you would like. I'll try to be on CC teamspeak a bit this evening as well as Friday evening too.

Can testify. This man speaks the truth.

Although, I'll probably need to enlist his help again sometime in the future. Once I get a new rig setup.
