The ability to administrate and moderate the server.

Can you not accomplish that in discord? There are a good amount of permissions that you can allow and restrict. Plus you can add bots to add even more moderation.

You can also theme discord. You have to have something called BetterDiscord, though. I recommend the Beards Material Design. Has a bunch of nice animations.

BetterDiscord has been hit with a few security issues as of late.

However, I'm almost sure those have been patched. (Discord alone can do quite a few things.)

Discord definitely has administration and moderation tools. Probably more than teamspeak.

I manage both TS and a Discord server, Discord does not even come close to the permission capabilities of TS. I would not recommend Discord in an environment like this, it's more for a group of friends or a single-game clan, not one that plays many different games.

I would agree a discord should be added but as a admin of discord server has 100+ members it's hard when you have more then on game for it even tho you can get things to improve your gameplay bots and plugins for discord can be costly if you don't want buggy plugins

As the owner of the discord server we have, I also recommend TS for now. Discord isn't built for large, multi-layered communities like ours. The permissions are just hazy. I.E., most of our active members have the ability to kick/ban people... in discord, if you kick someone, they have to be re-invited (/ go through the invite link again), which is super annoying, and there are no temp bans. Furthermore, I'm pretty sure you can kick/ban anyone, even of a higher role. Haven't actually tested it though...

I will argue that Discord sounds better, not because the mere codec but because it runs default at 64kbps, versus teamspeak's usual 12.7kbps. This makes teamspeak a lot better for using mobile-data, but not good for nice audio.

Discord is prettier, and has persistent chat with image embedding, etc; however these things also have downsides. Moderation becomes a 24/7 job, porn can easily be linked/embedded, we can't keep people safe from pms (most security has to be set up user-side), etc. It just becomes a security nightmare for a "kid friendly" server. Think the trolls we get now are problematic? Heh, it could be worse...

Also, usually when people have a chat in one of the channel-spawned channels, their chat is private. It is not so in discord, and secondly why wouldn't those people just fracture off into a private discord call? Now you don't know who's really hanging out / how easy it is to join them unless you ask, etc... fractured community.

It just becomes difficult and fractures the community. Trust me when I say this; I recommended it to the staff/council a year ago, use it daily, moderate a 1000+ member game server, and have toyed around with settings/permissions a ton. It is our backup / last stand, if anything, as our community is not built for it, and will change drastically (for the worse, I'd argue) if we move to it.

I will mention that ranks and such can be made so that one is above the other. The one and only server I moderate has it setup so that I cannot kick/ban other Mods and the Admins. (Also I just looked and I do not have the ability to kick/ban.)

I'm not 100% sure how this was setup, however I do know both of the admins on the other server are Discord Partners, (I.E. they have a cool hoodie/official acknowledgement for their servers.) as such they know quite a bit more about this than I do. I want to say it was done with the addition of a bot known as Mee6, but that one's kinda... slow when it comes to things such as stream announcements.

At this point, keep it on the backburner. Although, it probably wouldn't hurt to Tweet them about these concerns. (I know the NSFW content issue became pretty serious about a week ago, they were working to crack down on it.)

Good to hear about the perms, before they added heirachies I'm pretty sure it was like the previous... huehue.

And correct, it's awesome that they have been adding those moderation whatnot. The biggest issue otherwise is making sure our (especially younger) users disable "recieve pm's from other people" type of thing, due to our inability to control what gets uploaded there... shrug.

I love the software, don't get me wrong. Voice quality is top notch, it's beautiful, etc, it's just... we knew it was going to fracture our community once we started/did a transition to it. The funny part is, is that by merely existing it has already done that... so eventually will we transition? Probably. But it's a last stand. :T

Because some users prefer Discord and therefore don't hang out on the TS server anymore?
