Minecraft 1.8 is out.

Post by crazysarge » September 3rd, 2014, 3:11 pm

Hey everyone. I dont want to disappoint anyone or be the bear of bad news, but Minecraft just in the last few days released 1.8 update. That means that there have been a lot of changes including map changes and item textures and brand new things.

So I am posting this as a way to get everyones opinion on resetting the server and starting a new 1.8 world. I know we just fairly recently reset but we kind of did it at a bad time since 1.8 was bound to come out soon.

So everyone tell me what you think and if we all agree we can ask the server tech team if they will update it.

so do we need to do a whole server reset when a new version comes out? I thought we could just update what we are running.

We really should be on the most recent builds if we can, so I'm all for that. I'll look into it and see whats all involved.

Save the world/config, update and see if it breaks anything.

If there is a way to save all the stuff that's already there and make it a new world than sure.
I am not saying every update. I am saying every large update. I mean this update added quite a lot of things including the biggest natural structure. So in my opinion its worth it to do a whole server reset. Other wise people will have to explore much farther out.

It's a shame you can't just rebuild the world where it adds in the new stuff without destroying the parts that you've modified.

Often when there are worldgen changes, newly generated terrain won't match what was there before, even if the seed is the same. Then you get stuff like this:

Yep, I'll look into 1.8 and see if it warrants an update, sounds like it might. We can always put it up to a vote. I know we put a lot of work into Galactica and other things in this server. I would like to take some more pictures and video of that before starting a new world.

Ok. I dont know if this is possible but a lot of the stuff you all built at spawn is in the air. So I don't know if you all can save that kinda stuff but it might be an idea too.

You could MCedit a bunch of stuff that's 'detached' from the landscape.
