ARK: Survival Evolved

Post by GingerAvenger » July 1st, 2016, 11:33 pm

Do you love ark, but hate playing on the public servers? Are you looking for a new server? I'm throwing this out there for input.

We have tested (just to see if it could be done, honestly) and know that in one of the spare, unused corners of our server, we can run this. It's been tested. We have the Center map on it at this time. IF you are interested in a CC ark server with the usual no trolling type rules - let's talk. We're brainstorming. Making sure we have appropriate interest, etc. Now that we know it IS possible, let's talk interest. Let's talk options. Let's talk mods.

So, here goes. If you could design an ark server with your dream set up - what would it look like?

Taming modifiers? Gathering modifiers? XP modifiers?

Any workshop mods?

What are your thoughts? Let's have some fun with this discussion.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd Go!

Okay, I'll start. :)

I'm thinking the Metal with glass mod
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... earchtext=

Tho I'm not gonna lie - this looks really cool, too. Steampunk Ark. YEAH!
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... earchtext=

EcoTrees - because this stuff is pretty awesome and the lanterns and lit trees are wonderful
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... earchtext=

This would be nice - individual kibble icons
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... earchtext=

A good stacking mod would be nice
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =680481868

And the cute hair mod - because, cute hair
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... earchtext=

As for the server settings, I think
• 4x diff
• 6x taming
• 3x resources
• max level 105

Tho, x 10 would be fine, too. HA! I am enjoying the center map and do not enjoy the Island, but I'm open to whatever you folks think would be good. There are tons of WIP maps, but I'm not sure we're into the constant update thing that comes with that. And I LOVE Valhalla, too.

That's about all I have for my input. What about you?!

Remember, this is just dreaming and let's see if/what might come of it and if we have a viable chance at a future ark server. Either by cc or something I do on my own. Let's dream together. :D

My main thoughts would be to try and keep the total download size of the mods stays relatively low so new players don't have to download too much, but I think you already know that. For the map, I'd say lets try to get one that's complete or near complete enough that there's not a massive update every third week that people have to download. That's one of the reason why I'm not going to vote Valhalla, though I love it! Just so many updates it seemed... or was that other mods?

This will be a bit long, I'll break it up into Mods , Settings, and Maps.

MODS
Whoa!!! Totally sold on the Steampunk mod. This would kind of give the Primitive feel both you and I liked, but allow for some technology machinery. Plus, the look of it, someone put some work there! I'd upvote most of those mods, the only one I'm hesitant on is the Stackable but it says bug free. Here are some other suggestions, I'm going to go overboard just because  but I'm assuming in the end not all can be done if we want to keep space low.

Settings
I'm actually not sure what the rates should be on this, as I'm still not exactly sure how they effect things. For sure upping the taming is a must - we are people with lives usually in this community :D Also the hatching -> Juvie may need to be adjusted but I'd like to see if we can still allow imprinting. Also tougher dinos makes things more interesting and more risk taking for taming the bigger... teethier critters.
So, I'd say...
  • 5x diff
  • 6x taming
  • 2x (or 4x for a little easier building) resource
  • max level 120

Maps
I'm game for Valhalla if we can check how often it is updated. One thing was that with the Vahalla map I kept having map texture issues which also seemed to transfer to the critters.
Center map, the glow bugs was awesome! Haven't explored the map so I can't really say what the rest is like. Ruins were pretty, plus it is a completed map so we won't have to worry about updates from that.
Terra Nova Initia v1.3.2; love the previews! But the creator is doing an overhaul of the map so I'd only do it once it's done.
Umassoura (Update 2.4.1), seems to be pretty well done, large and near completion. I'd like to give this a try! It has monoliths, which is a cool feature... not sure on ruins.

My vote is for Umassoura at this point.

I don't play ARK but I love the idea of this... Could this be a public server and used partially as outreach ie our TF2 servers?

Yes. Absolutely. It will need to be admin'd as trolls abound in every facet of life and gaming. :)
