Are there any dos and don'ts to not get RROD?

Post by Man of War » December 26th, 2009, 3:27 pm

I just got a Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 Limited Edition console. So I was wondering if there are any things I can do to help prevent getting the Red Rings Of Death.

Will I even have to worry since it is an elite?

Also, this is my first 360 so I don't really know how to work everything so well right now. So are there some cool tricks you all know?

One last thing, Gamertags. I know I am going to be playing Xbox Live so I need to come up with a gamertag that is creative, unique, and cool. Any ideas you have would be fantastic!

just dont close it in a cabinet and play. Whenever your using it make sure it is at least a couple inches from any thing on the sides so it can ventilate. But don't worry about it, the RRoD were only really for the first batch of boxes, i've had mine for 2 years and it is in great condition.

Mine had the RRoD and I repaired it. The problem was with some earlier model machines.
The X clamp that retains the cpu and gpu heat sinks were a poor design. A retrofit kit was available for about $15.00 a set. If you are comfortable digging into your PC then you can do this to your X Box.
I'll try and find the link to the company that sells the kit and post it here.

EDIT.. link to repair kit

There are many video's online to show you how to fix it.

The hard drive is for the same thing as a normal hard drive, to store information. It stores your saved games and all that jazz. And you can also download games to the hard drive to save the box from the wear and tear of actually running the disk.

And about the GT, i mean...that's all up to you, don't try to make it "cool" just make it something you like. Mine is the same as my name here, Disench4nted

There are actually 4 ways you can get the RRoD. Unless your xbox isn't ventilated enough or the cords aren't plugged in right then you shouldn't be worried.. Like Grumpy said, the 3 RRoD was a malfunction of the first generation 360s gpu ( mine got the 3 =( but hey I got a 1 month free live card hehe )

When it comes to a gamertag... don't try making a really cool one. Just try making something that has a good nickname, like if your tag is "Man of War" then everyone will call you "Man" (sorta like CS:S or TF2) you could be called "DeadMessAdlLnhi" and everyone will call you Dead or Mess so don't worry about something that looks cool... just worry about what you want people to call you.
